Roll Up, Roll Up…

The circus is in town this week at Kindergym!

We’ll balance on tightropes, swing like acrobats on the trapeze and put on a performance full of funny clowns. Everyone will be a star at the show ⭐️

Discover the Set Up

This theme we will be spending our time on the uneven bars, beams and rings & ropes.

On the Uneven bars we will need to be brave to climb our way through the rings of fire!  We are also practising throwing to a target using an underarm action - straight through the curtain and into the circus tent.

There will be lots of clever clowns over at the Beams.  We will need to focus as we try to balance on the stilts and walk on the beam with tinsel sticks. The tinsel sticks are a great way for us to try out our independence in crossing the beam without hand holding.  Did you know that our sparkly magic hat has special powers?  It will help you stand up tall as you wave to the crowd and that will help with your balance, control and confidence!

At the Rings & ropes there will be tickets to see the circus! Post your tickets in the box and then get ready to be the star acrobat of the show. Adding a slow down activity that requires attention to detail gives children a chance to prepare themselves for action. Slowing down before leaping into bigger skills helps kids to think first and prepare their next action with greater purpose. After the fun of the trapeze, we will head over to feed the elephants where we will also give our tummy muscles a workout to help condition them for forward rolls. It takes more strength than you think to roll over without coming undone!

The Act of Performing

This theme provides a perfect opportunity to introduce the ‘performance’ aspect of the circus to Kindergym!  During group time, we will develop a short act to perform for our special audience in the final week of our circus themed lessons.

In the first two weeks, we will build the performance concept and develop the story that will help our little team to synergise.  Working together in this way takes attention and patience.  It also challenges children to take on instructions in a cooperative manner, just like they will need to do at school.

In week three, it will be showtime and we can’t wait to see the delight in your child’s eyes when you clap and cheer at the end of the show!  The experience of putting on a show is exciting for many young children, however some children might feel unsure and may experience nerves when thinking about being centre stage.  It’s interesting that excitement and nerves can get a bit mixed up, but kindergym is a great place to practise sorting out those feelings.  With gentle encouragement, the safe and supportive environment that we have built in the gym is a great place to overcome nerves and be rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and self pride.

🎪 Enjoy the show everyone 🎪
